Methodology

Indicator metadata

Definition
An indicator of the extent to which the basin of a reservoir is filled with river sediments (silt, sand, clay), leading to a loss of its useful water volume and a rise of its bed.
Calculation method
The degree of siltation is calculated as the ratio of the silted volume to the initial volume of the reservoir, expressed as a percentage, and is determined on the basis of hydrographic surveys, echo sounding or calculations of river sediment discharge. The indicator is calculated annually, as well as after major floods and mudflows.
Institution responsible for calculation
Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan; Open Joint-Stock Holding Company “Barqi Tojik”
