Methodology

Indicator metadata

Definition
An indicator reflecting the share, area or length of forest belts planted along roads or railways relative to the total length of the road (e.g. number of rows per 1 km or hectares per 1 km of route).
Calculation method
1) Determination of the total row length (L): where strips are placed on both sides, the length is doubled. 2) Calculation of the number of plants in one row (Nряд): Nряд = L/a, where a is the spacing between plants in the row (taken as 0.5 m to 1 m depending on forest site conditions). 3) Accounting for the total number of rows (n): total number of trees/shrubs: N = n × Nряд The indicator is calculated once every three years.
