Indicator metadata
- Definition
- The indicator reflects the amount of nitrogen fertilizers applied per unit area of cultivated land and perennial plantations.
- Calculation method
- The indicator is calculated by dividing nitrogen use over the agricultural area as a whole, including arable land and pastures (regardless of the part of the agricultural area that is actually fertilized). Use of nitrogen nutrients (tonnes of N per 1,000 ha of arable land and perennial crop area). Arable land is land used for temporary crops, land under temporary meadows and pastures, and land under fallow. Nitrogen is measured by nutrient consumption. The indicator can also be calculated for other nutrients, P2O5 (phosphorus) and K2O (potassium or potash). Tonnes of nitrogen nutrients used per 1,000 ha = amount of fertilizers used. The indicator is calculated annually.
