Definition
Threatened species — species whose number of individuals has declined to a critical level such that they may become extinct in the near future. They include “critically endangered species”, “endangered species” and “vulnerable species”. Critically endangered species — species facing an extremely high risk of extinction in the wild. Endangered species — species that are not currently “critically endangered” but may face a very high risk of extinction in the wild in the near future. Vulnerable species — species that may fall into the category of high risk of extinction in the wild. Protected species — species that are protected under national legislation.
