- Definition
- This is a statistical indicator and a key criterion of the forest health (forest pathology) status of the forest fund, reflecting the total area (in hectares or square kilometres) where trees are exposed to the adverse effects of insects, fungi, bacteria or other harmful organisms.
- Calculation method
- The area of forests damaged by pests and diseases is calculated on the basis of records of outbreaks (foci) of harmful organisms and an assessment of the condition of stands using a special forest pathology methodology. The total area is calculated as the sum of all identified sites. The indicator is calculated annually.
