- Definition
- Specially protected natural areas are areas of land, water surface and the airspace above them containing natural complexes and features of special conservation, scientific, cultural, aesthetic, recreational and health-improving value. These areas are wholly or partially withdrawn from economic use by decisions of state authorities and are subject to a special protection regime. The indicator is defined as the ratio of the area of specially protected areas to the total area of the country.
