Methodology

Definition
This is a comparison of the volume of harvested crops per unit area in regions with artificial irrigation and in areas that depend solely on natural precipitation. The difference between the values reflects the extent to which the availability of moisture determines soil fertility and the efficiency of agriculture.
Calculation method
The calculation of yield is based on determining the biomass and comparing two zones: irrigated (controlled moisture reserve) and non-irrigated (dependence on natural precipitation). It includes an assessment of moisture use coefficients, calculation of water consumption and the application of correction factors, since irrigation can increase harvests by up to 2-3 times. The indicator is calculated for each harvest season of the crop.
Institution responsible for calculation
Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan; Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan
