- Definition
- Wastewater treatment coverage is the number and share of the population connected to centralized wastewater collection systems (sewerage systems), which, in turn, are connected to wastewater treatment plants. The indicators provide a measure of the quality of life of the population. A wastewater collection system (sewerage networks) may convey wastewater to treatment plants, or the wastewater may be discharged into the environment without treatment. Wastewater treatment is the main condition for reducing pressure on surface and groundwater resources in terms of pollution.
- Calculation method
- Population coverage (Pохв) is calculated using the formula: Pохв = (Nочистка / Nобщ) х 100% where: Nочистка is the number of people connected to centralized wastewater collection and treatment systems (people); Nобщ is the total population of the municipality, region or country (people). The indicator is calculated annually.
