Methodology

Definition
The volume of water resource reserves is the part of the hydrosphere suitable for economic use. The assessment of these volumes determines how much water is available for drinking water supply and irrigation, and is a key factor for food security and for sustaining life in any region.
Calculation method
The calculation of the volume of water resource reserves is based on compiling a water management balance that takes into account water inflow (runoff, precipitation) and water outflow. For drinking needs, the volume is calculated according to per capita norms, and for irrigation according to the total moisture deficit for specific agricultural crops. The indicator is calculated annually.
