Methodology

Indicator metadata

Definition
An indicator of the extent to which the basin of a water body is filled with river sediments (silt, sand, clay), which leads to a loss of its useful water volume and a rise of its bottom.
Calculation method
The degree of siltation is calculated as the ratio of the silted volume to the original volume of the reservoir, expressed as a percentage, and is determined on the basis of hydrographic surveys, echo sounding or calculations of river sediment load. The indicator is calculated annually, as well as after major floods and mudflows.
Institution responsible for calculation
Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan
