- Definition
- An urban planning and environmental indicator that determines the percentage ratio of land covered by vegetation (parks, public squares, urban forests, gardens) to the total area of the city. It serves as the main indicator of a comfortable urban environment and environmental well-being.
- Calculation method
- The share of green areas is calculated annually as the ratio of the area of all green plantings (parks, public squares, gardens, forests) to the total area of the city. Vegetation cover of 40-50% is considered optimal. Two main methods are used for the assessment: the urban planning (normative) method and calculation based on geographic information systems (GIS).
